Just Returned from the MCN Annual Conference
I spent last week in Atlanta at the Annual Conference of the Museum Computer Network. The conference brought together a community of museum professionals interested in using technology to improve their organizations and enhance the visitor experience. MOPA was fortunate enough to send three people from our staff to the conference, with support from the Balboa Park Online Collaborative. Together the three of us presented five sessions, including sessions on MOPA's collaboration with other institutions in the creation of interactive gallery activities, and on MOPA's use of technology to reach new audiences.
I was particularly pleased with the session I presented with BPOC's Perian Sully and Alan Renga of the San Diego Air and Space Museum. We spoke about our use of the photo sharing website flickr to introduce a wider audience to our respective collections. The image below is among the images that can be found on MOPA's flickr photostream. It's part of a panoramic photograph of San Francisco bay that was taken by Carleton Watkins in approximately 1880.
