Infinite Balance: Yao Lu's Landscape Series
“If we do not change our direction, we are likely to end up where we are headed.” -- Chinese Proverb
This quote frames an extraordinary series of work by Yao Lu, one of the artists showcased in Infinite Balace: Artists and the Environment, one of the current exhibitions now on view at MOPA.

Youth Exhibition: 5 years later
Since 2006, MOPA has showcased the photographs and films of emerging young artists from Kindergarten to grade 12 in our annual youth exhibition. After five years of exhibitions, I am still astounded by the skill, creativity and artistry seen in the works created by these young artists. This year’s exhibition, See/Saw is no exception.

Just Returned from the MCN Annual Conference
I spent last week in Atlanta at the Annual Conference of the Museum Computer Network. The conference brought together a community of museum professionals interested in using technology to improve their organizations and enhance the visitor experience.

An Evening with Chris Jordan
Between Honolulu and Tokyo, lie the Midway Islands. They are the home to almost 70% of the world’s albatross population. Every day, parent albatrosses forage the Pacific Ocean seeking food to feed their young. Vibrant plastics and garbage are regularly mistaken for food and as a result, tens of thousands of baby albatrosses die from trash consumption.
Italian Culture on Our Screen with the San Diego Italian Film Festival
MOPA has always been a premiere Southern California locale to interact with photography’s past and present, but you may forget that the Museum is also a wonderful venue to experience diverse and rarely screened films from around the world. A huge opportunity to see cinema at its finest just kicked off this past weekend with the San Diego Italian Film Festival and we want to remind you to come to MOPA and see the moving pictures we have on display.

A Spooky Image for Your Halloween
"Eerie" is a word that well describes this photograph entitled Duntroon Castle, Argyllshire, Scotland. The artist is Simon Marsden, a photographer who lives and works in England.
On this Halloween, I want to share with you one of the nearly 7,000 photographs in the collection of the Museum of Photographic Arts. In this case a pretty spooky image of a real castle in Western Scotland.

Spook-tacular Fun in Balboa Park
The third annual Halloween Family Day takes place tomorrow (Saturday, October 29) in Balboa Park! Stop by MOPA for some photography and fun, preferably in costume and experience Halloween in the Park.

The Bread Book
Out of the 20,000 books held in the Dubois Library, there are more than a few treasures; books that illustrate and document early photographic processes and subjects, or were created by seminal photographers who have left their indelible mark on our visual history. These books are incredible to see and touch and hold. They provide true connection to a medium and a past that is quickly changing and evolving.
