SDIFF Monthly Screening: "I demoni di San Piertroburgo"

06.20.2013 7:00 pm

I demoni di San Pietroburgo (The Demons of Saint Petersburg)

Giuliano Mondaldo, 2008, 118 minutes

This multiple award-winning feature by one of the masters of Italian cinema is driven by the devils that haunt the Russian writer, Fyodor Dostoyevski. Dostoyevksi, a man haunted by his own past naïve involvement in socialist rhetoric, finds himself confronted by the results of that involvement and the fame he has gained as a writer since then.  Now the revolutionary youth look up to him, and he must act to save the lives of people he may not admire but whose loss would only mean more suffering for those he cares about.
