It was 1983 when MOPA first opened its doors in Balboa Park. As it turns out, that was a great year for movies as well. And so, we bring you Cinema Select: 1983. Choose between three classics from that year and come to our POP Thursdays event on May 23rd to see the winning selection. You get to choose, so watch the trailers below and vote for the movie you want to see most.

Francis Ford Coppola, 1983, 91 minutes. Starring C. Thomas Howell, Matt Dillon, Patrick Swayze, and Ralph Macchio A gang of tough poor boys, the Greasers, are in constant clash with the wealthy kids, the Socials. The film’s cast of up-and-coming stars, including Diane Lane, Rob Lowe, Emilio Estevez, Tom Cruise, Matt Dillon, Ralph Macchio and C. Thomas Howell, helped spark the Brat Pack genre in the 80’s.
May 23rd, POP Thursdays begins @ 7 pm, the film begins @ 8 pm. Cost is free for members, $6 students and seniors, $8 general admission.

Martha Coolidge, 1983, 99 minutes. Starring Deborah Foreman and Nicolas Cage Valley girl, Julie Richman, finds herself questioning her friendships and popularity when she falls for Randy, a punk from the city. In typical 80’s teen flick fashion, the climax of the film happens at the high school prom.
Paul Brickman, 1983, 98 minutes. Starring Tom Cruise and Rebecca De Mornay While his parents are out of town, Joel gets himself into a bit more trouble than the usual teen. A set of wayfarer sunglasses, collared shirt, and underpants are famously worn in a scene that catapulted Cruise into stardom.
