Programs at Your School

Can’t come to MoPA? We’ll come to you!
We offer a variety of programs focusing on photography, multimedia, and filmmaking all designed to fulfill California content standards.

Design-Your-Own Studio Class
Whether you’re looking for a class on Cyanotypes, Van-Dykes, digital photography, or most any other photographic process, we can accommodate you!  Our staff can put together a studio class custom designed to your curriculum and level of experience.  Cost may vary depending on materials needed for the class.

Photography Lecture
$100 per class or assembly

Most students graduate high school with some background in art history, and no background in photography.  Photography is the most pervasive art form of our time and this lecture is designed to give your students the necessary background on the history and art of photography.  This 45-minute to 1-hour lecture will introduce students to various topics in photography including the history, social impact, and specific movements.
Available Monday – Friday, 10:00–4:00 p.m.

One Session Studio Classes
$300 for class of 35 students or less (around $8.50 per student).  All materials provided.

Light and Photography (recommended for grades 1-6)
Light is an integral component in producing a photograph.  In this workshop, students will learn how light creates images through activities that demonstrate this amazing phenomenon.

The Digital Domain (recommended for grades 3-18)
Students of all abilities will learn photographic and artistic conventions like composition, exposure, and the elements of design.  Working in groups, students will use digital cameras in a hands-on activity.  Printed photographs will be provided and delivered after the studio class.  A limited number of digital cameras are available.

Lights! Camera! Action! (recommended for grades 6-18)
Moving pictures developed in the 1890s and have become an integral part of our lives.  In this workshop, students will learn the history and basics of making a movie, including storyboards and different types of filmmaking techniques.

Two Session Studio Classes
$950 per class of 35 students or less (around $27 per student) for two sessions.  All materials are provided including one-use cameras for each student and complete photo processing.

Photo Scavenger Hunt (grades 4-8)
Photography creates a unique opportunity for everyone to share their own vision of the world around them.  In this hands-on workshop, students will have the chance to get creative with a photo shoot while learning about photographic technique and presentation.

The Creative Eye (grades 9-12)
The perfect program for Art and Photo Classes!  Students will learn the difference between a “snapshot” and photographic art.  They will learn about the elements of photography before they have the chance to put theory into practice with a photo shoot. There will be a class discussion and critique of students’ work.
