School in the Park

School in the Park (SITP) is an innovative program designed to allow students the opportunity to acquire academic content through strategies that provide experiential learning throughout various museums in Balboa Park.  The program integrates school curricula while providing students a unique academic learning environment that fosters a love of learning, creative thinking, and self-confidence.  Now in its Ninth year, School in the Park has made an impact on 1100 third, fourth and fifth graders from San Diego’s inner-city schools.

The MoPA Education Department works with over 300 fourth graders from both Rosa Parks and Hamilton Elementary Schools for two week-long programs focusing on photography, multimedia, and filmmaking. The program not only exposes children to these mediums, but also uses Art as a tool to encourage students to become unique, creative, and confident individuals.  For more information about the program, visit the website.

Adapted School in the Park programs are available to interested schools. For more information, please contact the Director of Education for more information at 619.238.7559 x212.
