Free Programs for Title I Schools
Exposure
Exposure is MoPA’s outreach program that integrates photography into the classroom setting and existing school curriculum. Exposure allows students to learn about photography and related arts during multiple in-class sessions and a field trip to MoPA. The program includes two visits with the classroom teacher for planning and curriculum connections.
Through discussions and hands-on activities from MoPA’s award-winning curriculum, The Visual Classroom: Integrating Photography into the School Curriculum, students are encouraged to explore their creative potential through the medium of photography while developing visual literacy and communication skills. Students have the opportunity to learn about the history of photography, basic image-making techniques, and participate in a number of photographic activities in their classroom.
Exposure is currently offered for students in grades 3 - 8. Programming is in the developmental phases to serve grades K-2 and 9-12. Exposure is free of charge to Title I San Diego Unified and San Diego County schools that demonstrate a need and desire for art education.

Collaborative Arts Resources for Education (CARE)
Collaborative Arts Resources for Education (CARE) is an arts education initiative offered by the Museum of Photographic Arts, the Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego, and the San Diego Museum of Art. In 2004, the three museums received an anonymous donation to create a collaborative arts-based education program for Title I San Diego elementary schools. The purpose of the CARE program is to enable teachers and their students to continue and expand the visual art experience in the face of diminished funding for arts education. CARE includes an artist-in-residence program which brings artist-educators from the three museums to work with third-, fourth- and fifth-grade teachers and classrooms. During these in-class sessions, students participate in a variety of hands-on instruction and arts-based activities.
Other components of the CARE program include teacher in-services and an arts-based website. The goal of the CARE website is to provide educators and students of San Diego, and throughout the country, quality standards-aligned arts-based lesson plans and resources. The CARE program serves to inspire a resurgence of arts education in the K-12 classroom. New additions to the CARE website are bilingual pages devoted to families and kid-friendly pages. Parents and their children can view artworks from each of the three museums, discover what programs are available, and even create their own work of art together by exploring the activity pages. Visit www.carearts.org for these activities. For more information, contact the CARE Program Manager at (619) 696-1996.
