Docent Tours
Docents are available to maximize the learning opportunities for your students and give in-depth tours on the current exhibitions.  FREE for all school groups, a two-week advance reservation is required to obtain a docent and free museum admission.  Docent tours are not offered on Free Tuesdays. Self-Guided Tours
Groups may choose to visit the galleries on their own.  Advance reservations are required for free museum admission. Please contact the Tour Coordinator at 619.238.7559 x301 or tours@mopa.org.

Behind-the-Scenes Tours
Special arrangements can be made for your classes to tour the print-viewing workshop and permanent collection area at MoPA.  Geared towards college-level art, photography, or museum studies classes, this tour will introduce students to the various resources available at MoPA.  For more information please contact (619) 238-7559 x213, or email pope@mopa.org.

Print-Viewing Room
MoPA’s print-viewing room is available to scholars, educators, students, and artists for specific projects related to MoPA’s permanent collection of 9,000 photographs. Registration is required at least two weeks in advance. Contact (619) 238-7559 x213 or email pope@mopa.org for more information.

Cost
Docent-led and self-guided tours are free of charge to school groups and organized nonprofit groups with advance reservation of two weeks or more.

General group tours are $4 per person with advance reservations of two weeks or more.

General Tour Guidelines

  • Docent-led or self-guided tours are available everyday, except holidays, from 10:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. A two-week advance reservation is required for all tours.
  • The museum does not provide tours on Free Tuesday (Second Tues. of every month).
  • Unless otherwise notified, docents and educators will wait ten minutes past the scheduled tour time, after which the group must self-guide.
  • The ideal tour size is 15- 20 people. Efforts will be made to split larger groups between multiple docents if available. 
  • One chaperone per every 15 children (age 18 and under) is required to accompany tours.
  • Please download a tour policy agreement.
