Weekend Classes for High School Students
Sonic Photography: How to Listen With Your Eyes
March 7, 14, and 21, 2009, 11:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.

This class is for students interested in taking photos of musicians in various settings. Students will be taught live-performance photography techniques as well as off-stage group portraiture. The class will study iconic images from the golden age of rock 'n roll to the snot-nosed rebellion of punk, and the rhythms and rhymes of hip hop. The class will emphasize resourcefulness, how to create a trademark style, and how to develop a relationship with a band. Finally, post-production Photoshop techniques will be explored and applied.

Cost: $115.00 for Members, $130 for Nonmembers

Accidental Art: How to Make Fine Art Photographs Using Toy Cameras
May 2, 9, and 16, 2009, 11:00 a.m. – 2: 00 p.m.

This class is designed for beginning photography students interested in creating fine art photography. Students will learn about the history of the toy camera, a simple, inexpensive film camera made out of plastic. Using toy cameras such as the Diana or Holga, students will experiment with different modifications including using a filter on the lens, pinhole, and cross processing. The class will culminate with a group critique of students’ work.

Cost: $115.00 for Members, $130 for Nonmembers


Spring Camp: Five Days of Fun and Knowledge
April 6-10, 2009

MoPA’s annual spring camp is the best way for kids to enjoy their spring vacation in Balboa Park.  Each day features a different photographic activity and outdoor adventure with digital cameras, video cameras, and alternative photographic processes. All materials are included in the cost of the camp. Scholarships are available for those who qualify.  For more information please email edudept@mopa.org.

Cost:
$35 per day, $160 for all 5 days for Members; $40 per day, $185 for all 5 days for Nonmembers

 

 

 

Summer Camp: Adventures in Photography and Filmmaking
July - August 2009
Explore the art of photography and filmmaking at the Museum of Photographic Arts’ summer camp. Available for students in grades 3-12, these hands-on workshops provide students with the opportunity to learn techniques of filmmaking and photography. Students will create movies and take photographs while working individually and in groups. MoPA is a proud participant in the Balboa Park Camp Collaboration. Scholarships are available for those who qualify. For more information please email edudept@mopa.org.
