Youth Exhibitions

Writing with Light September 13 – February 1, 2009 As part of the Museum of Photographic Arts’ new vision to become an institution for visual learning and to support the museum’s education programs, MoPA is proud to present the third annual youth exhibition entitled Writing with Light, which will be on view from September 13 to December 4, 2008.  The exhibition will illustrate the connections between photography and literacy, using the photographic arts as inspiration, students will interpret literary works, both fact and fiction.

Inspired by the exhibition, A Literacy of Images: Nancy Newhall & the Art of Photography, which will be on view at the same time, the exhibition will provide students an opportunity for expression through both a visual and narrative connection by linking the subject of photography with writing.  Collected from various schools in San Diego County, a jury of museum staff and field professionals will select the final photographs to be exhibited in September 2008.  The exhibition will bring together the significance of viewing photography fundamentally through writing, while offering a new way of looking at the medium.

Through the Lens
October 3, 2009 – January 24, 2010

MoPA’s fourth annual youth exhibition, Through the Lens will showcase works created by students who have participated in the various photography and film programs offered by the education department including the Museum’s outreach programs, after-school programs, studio classes, workshops, and camps.
