MoPA Celebrates 25th
Anniversary Year in 2008...

Push Pin Party, The Museum of Photographic Arts (1983)

Festivities begin Friday, January 18 from 5:30 - 6:30 p.m., with a VIP Anniversary Reception, and include welcoming remarks from Gail Bryan, MoPA Board Director.

The program will include special announcements and acknowledge significant contributors throughout the Museum's history. Those recognized reach back to MoPA's early beginnings as the Center for Photographic Arts, a museum without walls, prior to its Balboa Park relocation in 1983, and include Danah Fayman, a key figure in the establishment of the Center for Photographic Arts, and Larry Urrutia, the center's first director in 1973. Arthur Ollman, MoPA's founding director, will present highlights from the last 25 years; Curator Carol McCusker will discuss the permanent collection; and Deborah Klochko, MoPA's current director, will explore her vision for MoPA moving forward.

Immediately following the VIP Anniversary Reception at 6:30 p.m., Museum members and guests are invited to preview MoPA's newest exhibitions on view. In honor of the 25th anniversary, all three exhibitions represent and display images from MoPA's permanent collection. These include The Photographer’s Eye: A Way of Seeing, on view January 19 – April 20, 2008, Picturing the Process: Portraiture Through the Lens, on view January 12 – July 6, 2008 and Measured Time: MoPA at 25, on view from January 12 – April 20, 2008, a timeline exhibition reflecting the museum’s achievements.

“This is a great way of celebrating our permanent collection,” says MoPA Curator Carol McCusker, “and renewing our commitment to collecting for the Southern California community and beyond.”
