David Emitt Adams, Telephone Poles, 2012. Tintype on found object.

David Emitt Adams created this tintype on a can found in Arizona’s Sonoran Desert, where the photographer lives. Adams is an emerging artist whose images of the American West explore the intersection of time and place. Each can he collects is a unique piece of American history that has been transformed by its exposure to the elements. Having grown up in Yuma, Arizona, Adams is aware of the historical significance of the Western landscape and the pioneering photographers who have come before him. As an artist, Adams’ work merges a 19^th century photographic process with contemporary ideas, resulting in an innovative, thought provoking approach to contemporary landscape photography.
