Lifespan Learning Assistant
Status: Part-time hourly for two years Hours: 20 hours per week for two years, flexible schedule with the ability to work occasional nights and weekends.
Salary: $15/hour
Start Date: August 2010
Reports to: Lifespan Learning and Digital Interpretation Coordinator
The Museum of Photographic Arts (MoPA) seeks an energetic and detail oriented individual with strong teaching skills and experience in photography and working with senior citizens for the position of Lifespan Learning Assistant. This position reports to the Lifespan Learning and Digital Interpretation Coordinator and is part of the Education Department. Primary responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
• Working with the Lifespan Learning and Digital Interpretation Coordinator to implement the 2-year grant-funded initiative titled SEPIA (Seniors Exploring Photography, Identity, and Appreciation), which includes teaching photography courses and facilitating discussion-based outreach lectures and tours with senior citizens at the Museum and around the San Diego area.
• Developing relationships with senior service providers in San Diego, including adult day centers, retirement homes, community centers, senior lounges, etc.
• Maintaining all equipment and supplies related to the SEPIA programs.
• Instructing the fifth grade curriculum of the School in the Park program at MoPA, which teaches students how to conduct research and create podcasts.
• Modifying and refining the 5th grade School in the Park curriculum as needed.
• Maintaining all equipment and supplies related to the School in the Park program.
• Co-managing the advertisement, coordination, and monitoring the internship program at MoPA.
• Teaching other programs related to photography and/or filmmaking as needed • Providing general support and assistance to the Education Department as and where needed.
• Other duties as assigned. Qualifications: Strong organizational and interpersonal skills, the ability to work both independently and as a member of a team, flexibility, and enthusiasm are required. The candidate must have his/her own car and the ability to travel to various program sites. The candidate must be able to work with senior adults with a wide range of knowledge, experience, and abilities.
• Minimum of a B.A. in fine art or art history • Teaching, working, or volunteer experience with elementary school students and/or senior citizens
• Knowledge and experience with photography, including using and being able to explain how to use digital camera functions, compositional techniques, etc.
• Computer skills, knowledge, and experience with iMovie and Photoshop
• Flexible schedule
• Ability to work occasional evenings and weekends
