MOPA’s 8th Annual Youth Exhibition Attracts a Distinguished Judging Panel
San Diego, Calif. – The Museum of Photographic Arts recently opened up the call for entries to its eighth annual Youth Exhibition. The program is open to kids, grades K-12, throughout San Diego County and the winners’ work will hang in MOPA’s gallery from October 19, 2013 through February 2, 2014.
This exhibition has been building momentum since it began in 2006 and this year some prestigious jurors have signed on to select the winners. In addition to Deborah Klochko, the Museum’s Executive Director, Todd Gloria, SD City Council President, District 3, Sam Hodgson, a San Diego-based freelance photojournalist, and Annika Nelson, Program Coordinator for the Art and Photography programs at UCSD Extension will select the winning works.
Every year, the exhibition has a theme that the submitted works must represent. MOPA’s 8th Annual Youth Exhibition will focus on the theme of community with My City, Your City. Students may use photography or video to document their community, neighborhood, or home. Students may consider these places from a personal or cultural point of view. What does it mean to call a place home? Is your community where you live or where you go to school? What makes your neighborhood unique? What people, places, or spaces make your city special? How does your city compare to other places around the world?
Artwork must be submitted by June 15th and winners will be selected on the basis of originality, quality, and the artist’s statement within the My City, Your City theme. For additional information, please visit www.mopa.org/yx13.
