MOPA Presents Photo Auction 2013

Release Date:
July 18, 2013

(San Diego, Calif.)  The photography event of the year is back. Following the success of its inaugural auction in 2011, The Museum of Photographic Arts (MOPA) will once again host a night of fun, friends and, of course, exquisite photography not to be missed. MOPA’s 2013 Photo Auction will feature over 50 works from both established and emerging artists so everyone is sure to find a piece they can’t live without.

This year’s event will take place on October 2, 2013 from 6:00 pm – 10:00 pm and, back by popular demand, Andrea Fiuczynski, President of Christie’s Los Angeles, will once again preside overthe auction. There will be both live and silent auctions, with pieces that appeal to the serious collector as well as those just starting out.

“No matter what experience you have collecting art, MOPA’s Photo Auction is the ideal place to indulge your passion for photography,” stated Deborah Klochko, the Executive Director of MOPA.  “As a photographic museum, we want to help fuel that passion and have fun at the same time.”

Works for the fundraiser have been donated by numerous well-known galleries and artists that include Jessica Lange, Doug + Mike Starn and Steve McCurry. This is a rare opportunity for any fan of photography to be part of the most visionary event of the year, in addition to potentially acquiring new artwork, all while supporting MOPA and the photographic arts.

VIP tickets are available for $250 and include hosted valet, an advanced copy of the auction catalog, complimentary bar and food, and an invitation to a VIP Preview Event on September 27th. In addition, to make the event accessible to all, regular tickets can be purchased at an early bird rate of $75 for complimentary bar and food stations. Details for purchasing tickets, event information and auction items can be found at

Images will be on view at MOPA and online from Saturday, September 28 to Wednesday, October 2, allowing advanced viewing by members of the general public. Phone and absentee bidding will be available for those who are unable to attend.  All proceeds will help benefit MOPA’s visionary exhibitions and education programs.
