Breaking the Frame: Pioneering Women in Photojournalism Catalog
As an accompaniment to the exhibition Breaking the Frame: Pioneering Women in Photojournalism, the Museum of Photographic Arts is pround to publish this catalogue focusing on the photography and careers of six women photojournalists – Thérèse Bonney, Margaret Bourke-White, Esther Bubley, Olga Lander, Hansel Mieth, and Grace Robertson.
Carol McCusker, MoPA Curator of Photography, serves as editor and contributing writer to the catalogue which examines, through biographical essays and photographs, the work of these six photojournalists. Two of the featured photographers, Thérèse Bonney and Olga Lander, are unknown in the larger circle of photographic history. The remaining photographers, with the exception of Bourke-White, have had scant attention paid to them.
Through critical essays as well as images, the catalogue discusses the unique contributions women bring to the field of photojournalism through access to subject matter often closed to male photographers.
